OUR HERITAGE
A large medieval structure with a low tower at the east end with much eighteenth century work and twentieth century restoration. There is a prominent twentieth century reredos depicting Christ in Majesty. A large baptistry was added by an earlier Incumbent for adult baptism by immersion in an attempt to accommodate Baptist practice. The same Vicar also built the village Methodist chapel. Llanbister church hosted a church school from the late eighteenth century. There was a resident Vicar until 2015. There is a small single manual pipe organ. The bells are rung by an electric mechanism. The minstrel’s gallery at the west end of the church once housed a village orchestra some of whose instruments have survived and are on display. The church had a robed choir until the 1960s.
